Mon County Early Voting on Record Pace as Final Day Arrives

Folks in Monongalia County have been showing up, and in a big way. With early voting wrapping up today, the county is on pace to set a new mark for a midterm election, and there's still time this afternoon to join them.

Monongalia County Clerk Carye Blaney reported that through the first nine days of the 10-day early voting period, nearly 11,700 people had cast a ballot either in person at one of the county's two early voting sites or by absentee ballot. That's about 17 percent of the county's registered voters, counted as of the close of business Friday.

Blaney said early and absentee voting totals for the 2026 midterm will surpass the county's totals from 2022. "Early voting has become very popular," she said. "We anticipate that and have plenty of staff on hand to assist the voters when they come in."

Mon County has been setting the pace all along. Through the first four days of early voting, the county led all 55 West Virginia counties in turnout measured as a share of registered voters, with roughly 8.3 percent of its voters already having cast a ballot at that point.

Today is your last chance to vote early

Saturday, Oct. 31, is the final day of early in-person voting across West Virginia. In Monongalia County, the two early voting locations are open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.:

Mountaineer Mall, 5000 Greenbag Road in Morgantown, accessed from the parking lot in front of Mylan and Anybody Fitness.

Mason-Dixon Historical Park, 79 Buckeye Road in Core, in the red barn.

So if you've got a little time between the ballgame and trick-or-treat tonight, you can still get it done today.

Heading to the polls Tuesday instead?

General Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and polls statewide will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. On Election Day, voters must go to their own assigned precinct rather than the early voting sites.

Mon County voters in Precinct 30 should take note of one change. Because of ongoing construction at the Marilla Park Recreation Center, Precinct 30 is moving to Mountainview Elementary School for Election Day. County commissioners approved the relocation.

Blaney also said there are only three official write-in candidates in this election. Write-in votes will be counted unofficially on election night and made official during the canvass, which is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9.

For a little perspective, early voting in Mon County is usually even bigger in presidential years. In 2024, 24,227 ballots were cast during the county's 10-day early voting period, nearly 58 percent of the total turnout for that election. For a midterm, though, this year's numbers are something to be proud of.

However you plan to vote, whether that's today at the mall or the red barn or Tuesday at your home precinct, West Virginia Pulse hopes you'll make your voice heard. Mountaineers have always shown up for each other, and it looks like Mon County is showing up again.
