The WVU Mountaineers football program received a massive boost Wednesday when five-star quarterback Marcus Thompson announced his commitment to play for West Virginia.

Thompson, a 6'3" 215-pound senior from Morgantown High School, is rated the No. 12 overall prospect in the Class of 2027. He's the highest-rated recruit to commit to WVU since Geno Smith in 2009.

A Hometown Hero

"This was always the dream," Thompson said at his commitment ceremony. "I grew up going to games at Milan Puskar Stadium. I want to bring a Big 12 championship to Morgantown."

Thompson threw for 3,847 yards and 42 touchdowns with just 4 interceptions as a junior, leading Morgantown High to the Class AAA state championship.

Impact on Recruiting

Thompson's commitment is expected to have a ripple effect on WVU's recruiting class. The Mountaineers' 2027 class now ranks 15th nationally, the program's highest positioning in the modern recruiting era.
